Since I was the only one in my family who was into music – it took me quite a long time to realize that I was good in composing and that this was the profession that suited me the very best. So even if my proffession was musican since the early twenties – I wrote my first orchestral work when I was 44 years old! Since then I’ve written many in a very short time – and I have had the fortune to work with really great, great orchestras and artists such as Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Andrew Manze, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Thomas Søndergaard, Anders Bergcrantz, Norrlandsoperans Symphony Orchestra, Terje Tønnesen, Richie Beirach, Håkan Hardenberger, Francisca Skoogh, Linda Dahl Laursen, Martin Sturfält, Camerata Nordica, Mats Rondin among many others.

Kultur/Kulturnytt/Sverige Radio October 15th:
Yesterday was Anna-Lena Laurin appointed Composer of the year on the Swedish jazz’ own event Jazzkatten: She has the ability “to create a succesful crossover between the jazz’s and classical music’s language and the courage to write music from her heart without leeking at prevailing musical trends” according to the motivation of the jury.
Laurin has written several works which have been performed by Swedish symphony orchestras, for example Iphigenia and Persephone. The latest The Painter is also recorded by Norrlands Operan Symphony Orchestra, with the jazz trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz under the batoon of Mats Rondin, and this is a record which has got good reviews.
With the kickoff in Concerto for flute strings and harp Camerata Nordica starts a long collaboration with premieres, commissioning, CD recordings and touring within Sweden as well as abroad, with Laurin.

I have refrained from rating “The Painter,” because the orchestral work does not obviously belong in the jazz category.
What genre this belongs to, I really don’t know. Just that it is
music. Enormously important and well worth listening to!”
-Jan Olsson (Dig Jazz)
This she weaves together into an evocative and strikingly beautiful music with trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz as brilliant soloist.
